How do I know if my AC needs to be serviced?
The simplest test is the calendar. We recommend a service every three months. If you cannot remember the last one, it is due.
Three months is not arbitrary. A unit running daily in a Singapore bedroom picks up enough dust in a quarter to start losing airflow, and airflow is what does the cooling. Pets, renovation next door or a unit left on overnight shorten that. A unit used a few evenings a month stretches it.
That is the schedule answer. If the unit is actually doing something — dripping, smelling, blowing warm, refusing to start — start from the symptom instead, because the symptom is what decides which service you need: aircon problems, and what they usually mean.
Is aircon chemical wash necessary?
For most units, most of the time, no — and the term is worth clearing up first. A chemical wash means cleaning a unit with chemical while it stays on the wall. We do not sell one. What we do is the chemical overhaul, where the unit comes off the wall and comes apart so every piece is flushed rather than wiped.
A unit cleaned every three months rarely reaches the state where chemical is the only thing that will shift the dirt. The overhaul is for units left a year or two untouched, or where last month’s service did not bring the cooling back.
So the useful version of the question is not whether chemical is necessary in general, but whether cleaning has stopped working on your unit. If it has, the overhaul earns its price. If the unit still cools properly, it is a more expensive way to reach the same result, and we will say so when you ask.
How much should an air conditioning service cost?
There is no single right number, because an honest price depends on how many units you clean in one visit. Ours is $50 for one unit, $60 for two, and down to $20 a unit at 6. A chemical overhaul is $130 for the first unit and $88 for each after. No GST on any of it.
The shape of the quote matters as much as the headline figure. Three things turn a cheap price into an expensive one, and all three are worth asking about before you book anybody: GST added at the end, a call-out fee charged on top of work you already booked, and a routine clean that turns into a gas top-up nobody checked was needed.

What we will tell you not to spend on
Three jobs we turn down more often than we sell them. Saying so costs us work, which is rather the point.
- Gas, before anyone has checked for a leak
- A sealed system does not use refrigerant up. If yours is low, it leaked, and topping it up without finding the leak sells you the same job again in a few weeks. Weak cooling is a dirty coil far more often than an empty system — aircon not cold but the fan is running.
- An overhaul, when a service will do
- If the unit still cools properly, taking it apart will not make it colder. Book the cheaper job.
- A repair on a unit that is not worth it
- A drain clear or a fan motor on a ten-year-old unit is money well spent. A compressor or a full board rarely is. You get the price and our honest read before you decide, not after.
